Strike notice
Fri Mar 10 09:31pmDear parents and caregivers
The Rakaia Board of Trustees can confirm school will be closed on Thursday March 16th. NZEI Union members have chosen to strike. This means that health and safety concerns needed to be considered in regards to teacher pupil ratios if we remained open for instruction and or supervision. We cannot provide enough non union teachers to remain open for instruction.
The BOT supports our staff being collectively valued and their desire to have better outcomes for students. We ask that the community understands and plans this day accordingly.
School will resume as normal on Friday March 17th.
Sincerely
Grant Lorimer
Presiding Member
Thursday update
Thu Mar 09 12:09pmGood morning everyone
We have a full school assembly tomorrow at 2.15pm. Please feel free to attend.
Next Tuesday afternoon we will have a sports afternoon, weather dependant. Some of the staff will be away at Professional development and so remaining staff and Teacher Aides will oversee a fun event with our school leaders. the children are encouraged to wear their House colours.
A heads up that Thursday 16th March has been chosen as a strike day if NZEI member teachers vote to take action. Some of our staff are NZEI and some are not. The BOT will consider these options, if and when, and then advise you of the school position and ability to cover students. We will keep you informed when we know what the decision is. Thank you.
Congratulations to Josh and Jessie who competed incredibly well with firsts and a second at the County swimming sports. swimming. More information will follow about selection for the Canterbury event.
The swimming pool sheds are coming along nicely and will be a fantastic addition for next year. A toilet will also be available now in the junior pool complex. This is all part of the schools development and is paid for by the Ministry of Education.
Thank you

School sores present at school
Sat Feb 25 12:44pmDear whanau
We have cases of Impetigo in the school presently. It is normal but things need to be covered and treated properly with a visit to your doctor for antibiotics. I have attached information for you on this Ministry of Health site.
Impetigo is a common skin infection that causes blisters, often on the face around the nose or mouth, but they can be anywhere on the body where the skin has been damaged in some way, eg. cuts or scrapes.
Impetigo sores are crusty-looking and they are very contagious. That means they can be spread easily to other parts of your own body or to other people by touching.
Time off from kura or school
Keep your child home from school, kindergarten or daycare until one day after the start of treatment. Make sure the dressings completely cover their sores.

Covid Cases at school.
Fri Feb 17 09:26amGood morning.
Please be aware we have had three confirmed Covid cases this week and the students are not always showing symptoms. Please be vigilant and test if you are concerned.
Your Household Contacts do not need to isolate. They should test daily for 5 days. If they test positive, they need to begin 7 days of isolation as someone with COVID-19.
Thank you for your understanding
